Experimenting With Colour, Shape and Texture

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my knitting that I forget that knitting is my freedom and my meditation. I’ts an easy thing to forget… especially when you’re already stressed and wound up.

I started a project months ago after seeing an episode of Skeindeer knits where Elli had completed and interesting shaped shawl. Something about that shawl sparked my imagination and a need to experiment. I have a small collection of Wollmeise yarn that I purchased about 5 years ago when you cold only get grab bags in an update from them (Unless you were super quick and knew exactly what you wanted). So, using a 150g skein of my favourite green Wollmeise and a 100g sock black from Stranded dye works I set about experimenting with colour and shape.

I really enjoyed playing with different textures within the colours I had chosen and finding out what patterns really made the colours sing. I am purposefully not writing a pattern for this shawl so that I really can just play with it and knit what I want to into it. It’s a brilliant way of freeing my very cluttered mind at the moment! Knitting meditation!

Hoping to have it finished fairly soon!

A New Autumn Cast On

I’ve been completely caught up in the autumnal feeling at the moment. I love this time of year it really speaks to me as a red head. All of the colours are changing and the world is brown, reds and oranges.

I’ve taken this opportunity to indulge in some autumn design work and greasy from the inspirational chaos that was my weekend at Yarndale I’ve gathered by thoughts and I’m ready to start!

I thought I would just give you a quick peek at some of the incredible colours I’m going to be using. All BFL and all hand dyed in a UK based floating dye studio (I know right!… how and where do you find the space to dye as well as live! Amazing!), these autumnal masterpieces really hit me and wanted to work together.

As you can see form the pictures the colours work so beautifully together I’m hoping this is just going to be one of those projects that clicking onto place!

Have a great weekend everyone and happy knitting

Knitting, Pattern Release

Truro Twist DK

I have at long last I have found the time to finish and have tested my absolute favourite shawl. I still have the first version of this shawl that I ever knitted, it was made from Noro silk garden 4PLY and was my first time pattern designing as well as knitting a triangular shawl… That was nearly 10 years ago. (Bad quality and very aged photograph below)

Since then I’ve been on a very long journey, with my knitting and in my personal life. This shawl pattern has stayed with me and developed into the two beautiful variations that I have now, the 4ply with a ruffled edge and the DK with a ribbed edge. The shawls feature a simple top down construction with a beautiful central plated spine.

I’m so incredibly proud of these patterns and to have carried them in my heart all this time its a privilege to see them out in the open and share them with other knitters.
